About Volvo VIDA

VIDA (Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales) combines diagnostics, parts information and repair instructions for Volvo cars. It is mainly relevant for models up to about 2019, as newer Volvos use later tools.

What it can do

  • Fault codes with guided diagnostics, parameters, activations and calibrations.
  • Parts catalogue and repair and wiring information in one program.
  • Software downloads to control units, through a paid online system.

Hardware

  • DiCE is Volvo's own interface. VIDA also supports J2534 devices.
  • Volvo-focused sources warn that J2534 devices may not reach every function, so DiCE remains the safer choice.

Limitations

  • Older design, and it needs a suitable Windows setup.

Good to know

Owners of DoIP-era Volvos often use other tools, such as VDASH with an ENET cable, for diagnostics. OBD4 does not provide software, licences or downloads.
