About Hyundai GDS

GDS (Global Diagnostic System) is the Hyundai Motor Group's dealer diagnostic family. Newer forms include GDS Mobile and GDS Smart, with KDS as Kia's equivalent.

What it can do

  • Fault codes, data analysis, actuation tests and module programming.
  • ADAS calibration functions in newer versions.

Hardware

  • Older GDS uses the original VCI, with an optional trigger module for flight recording.
  • GDS Mobile and KDS 2.0 use the wireless VCI II.
  • In the US, Hyundai also sells J2534 diagnostic software through HyundaiTechInfo.

Limitations

  • Which version you can buy depends on your country and distributor.

Good to know

Cheap online "GDS VCI" units are often copies, and they may not run current software. OBD4 does not provide software, licences or downloads.
