About KESS V5.017
KESS V2 hardware reads and writes engine and gearbox ECU software through the OBD socket. "V5.017" is a firmware generation used by aftermarket KESS V2 interfaces. These are separate from Alientech's current, subscription-based KESS3.
Supported vehicles
- Cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, tractors and motorcycles with ECUs in the KSuite protocol list (about 140 protocols).
- Many recent ECUs, such as Bosch MG1/MD1 and later, cannot be written over OBD with this generation. Some protocols, such as certain Denso units, are known not to work.
What it can do
- Read and write ECU flash memory over OBD, with checksum correction on supported protocols.
Strengths
- Low cost and no tokens.
- Often paired with K-TAG for ECUs that need bench or boot-mode access.
Limitations
- No official updates or support. Clone quality varies (the red PCB is usually preferred).
- A failed write can disable an ECU, so always save the original file and use a stable power supply.
- Tuning can break emissions or road-legal approval.
OBD4 does not provide software, licences or downloads.
