P2168: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor F Maximum Stop Performance
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P2168 mean?
P2168 covers position signal F at maximum travel. Letter F only exists where the pedal carries a third sensor track; GM's 2004 engine table, for example, runs a third pedal sensor under the F circuit codes, whereas most current cars make do with two tracks. The code sets when F, with the pedal at its upper stop, reports a value outside the accepted range. No manufacturer documents P2168 publicly; its logic follows P2163, which Ford lists, and the open-stop learning in a Visteon patent. Before ordering a pedal module, confirm that the car has a sensor F and compare all three tracks at full pedal. A worn track, a poor connector contact or a pedal that cannot reach its stop are typical. P2117 tests the rest position of F, P2130-P2133 its circuit.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Engine warning lamp on
- Full power not available
Common causes
- Medium Third pedal track F worn at full travel
- Medium Poor contact on the sensor F pins
- Medium Pedal held short of its stop
