P2169: Exhaust Pressure Regulator Vent Solenoid Control Circuit/Open

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls

What does P2169 mean?

The name points to a solenoid that lets an exhaust pressure regulator vent, but the only public, code-exact use found is on Jaguar Land Rover petrol models, where this code family belongs to the active exhaust valve: a solenoid in the tailpipe section switches a flap between quiet and sport sound. P2169 is the open or general fault of its control line. Land Rover documented P2169-13 (fault type 13 = open circuit) on the 2016 LR4 with the 3.0 supercharged V6 in bulletin SSM72392: the car configuration file enabled a valve that was never fitted, so the module saw an open circuit; reconfiguring cures it. Real cases mean a broken wire, loose plug or burnt-out coil. Exhaust pressure control valves, typical for diesels, have their own range P0475 to P0478. P2170 and P2171 cover the low and high faults.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Check engine lamp on
  • Exhaust sound no longer changes with the drive mode

Common causes

  • High Broken wire or loose connector at the exhaust valve solenoid, often from heat or road dirt
  • Medium Vehicle configuration enables an active exhaust valve that is not fitted
  • Medium Solenoid coil burnt through
