P2453: Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P24xx — Auxiliary emission controls
What does P2453 mean?
P2453 means the particulate filter pressure signal is electrically fine but does not behave like a real filter pressure. Manufacturers use two kinds of test. With the engine off there should be almost no pressure difference: GM's 2009 Duramax fails above 4.1 kPa, the 2014 Cruze 2.0 diesel above 3.2 kPa in after-run, and the Opel/GM 2.0 CDTi in the Saab 9-5 (2010) checks once at least 60 s after shutdown. With the engine running the signal has to follow changes in exhaust flow: the Duramax expects it to rise and fall when the flow changes by more than 200 m³/h per second, and Ford's 2023 diesels fail a reading under 1 kPa at 500 m³/h or more, which points to a disconnected or split hose. Saab adds that kinked braided hoses do not recover their shape. Audi (Q7 TDI) found moisture in sensor G505, Chrysler (2.8 diesel) checked sensor and connector, and Stellantis found open circuits and bad PCM grounds. Without a valid signal the soot load is estimated, often followed by P2463.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on
- DPF warning, regeneration inhibited or too frequent
- Reduced power on some vehicles
Common causes
- High Sensor hose disconnected, split, kinked or blocked
- Medium Sensor skewed or stuck, for example from moisture ingress
- Low High resistance in sensor wiring or ECM grounds
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
