P215D: Reductant Pump B Stuck On
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P215D mean?
P215D says the second DEF pump, called pump B or pump 2, keeps running or stays powered although the controller has commanded it off. No manufacturer documents this code publicly. Pump B itself is documented: Ford's 6.7L Super Duty trucks of 2023 can store pump B circuit codes P20FA, P20FC and P20FD (SSM 51891), and FCA names the same channel Reductant Pump 2 on 3.0L EcoDiesel models. California's OBD rule asks for functional checks of output components, and a stuck-on state is the logical opposite of P20FB, Performance/Stuck Off. A driver stage that no longer switches off, a control line shorted on the switched side or a welded relay could cause it. Effects can include pressure that cannot be released, lines not purged at shutdown and a drained battery. P201F is the same fault on pump A.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Pump audible after switching off the engine
- DEF system warning, possibly a flat battery after standing
Common causes
- High Output stage in the control module no longer switching off
- Medium Pump control line shorted so the pump receives power permanently
- Low Welded contacts in the pump supply relay
