P2153: Fuel Injector Group C Supply Voltage Circuit Low

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls

What does P2153 mean?

P2153 reports the third shared injector supply shorted toward ground. GM's 2018 Duramax tables use it only for the 6.6 L V8, where bank 3 feeds injectors 6 and 7; the four-cylinder 2.8 L has just two banks and never sets it. The criterion matches the other low codes – 0.5 Ω or less between a high-side pin and ground while the driver is on, 5 of 10 samples at 100 ms, type A. Ford lists group C among the injector driver checks of its 2023 diesels and flags shorts to ground or battery after about 0.2 s. On GM petrol direct injection, shown in the Saab 9-5 2.0T procedure, P2153 means low voltage on the high-side control line of cylinder 3, set after 1 s, type B. Open circuit and high fault of this group are P2152 and P2154.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Misfire on the group C cylinders
  • Loss of power and vibration
  • Check engine lamp on

Common causes

  • High Group C supply wire chafed and shorted to ground
  • Medium Injector of group C shorted to its body
  • Medium Moisture in the injector harness connector
  • Low Faulty injector driver in the engine control module
