P2136: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A/C Voltage Correlation
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P2136 mean?
P2136 reports that position signals A and C disagree. On engines with two electronic throttles, C typically belongs to the second throttle body: GM's 2023 table 23OBDG07 assigns C to sensor 1 of the bank 2 throttle. Mercedes-Benz documents P2136 for its M177 twin-turbo V8 in AMG C63, GLC63, SL63 and related models: bulletin LI07.10-P-080384 lists it with P2135, the A/G and B/G checks and actuator faults, traces the set to increased electrical resistance in the connector pins of both throttle actuators, and replaces the connector sockets with coated terminals. FCA also lists the code in emissions recall T21 for the 2004-2006 Dodge Sprinter. Expect a warning lamp and possibly reduced power.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Engine warning lamp on
- Possible loss of power
- Often stored together with P2135
Common causes
- High Increased resistance in the throttle actuator connector pins
- Medium Position sensor in one throttle body drifted or worn
- Low Carbon or ice making one throttle lag behind the other
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
