P2110: Throttle Actuator A Control System - Forced Limited RPM
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P2110 mean?
P2110 records that engine speed has been capped because throttle A can no longer be controlled safely. Ford's 2012 summary sets it on second-generation ETC when both throttle position sensors fail or Ford's throttle plate controller (TPPC) reports a fault, with MIL and wrench lamp; rpm is then capped by a pedal-dependent limit enforced through fuel and spark. FCA uses it widely: a Ram 1500 3.6L bulletin (09-023-23) pairs it with throttle icing (P2072, P2118), and Jeep Renegade/Fiat 500X PCM updates cure false settings. Repair the companion code first. Bank B counterpart is P210F; other fallback states are P2104-P2106.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Engine will not rev beyond a low limit
- Engine warning lamp on
- Stop/start disabled or hard start in frost
Common causes
- High Ice on the throttle plate after a cold soak
- Medium Loss of both throttle position sensor signals
- Medium PCM software setting the code falsely (update available)
- Low Worn or faulty electronic throttle body
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
