P0CFF: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Pump A Stuck/Stalled

What does P0CFF mean?

Unlike the electronics codes above, P0CFF belongs to the pump that circulates coolant through the high-voltage battery. It means the pump is commanded but does not turn, or stops. Volkswagen and Audi log P0CFF00 in the battery management unit J840 (address 008C): VW bulletin 93-21-02 for the 2021 ID.4 blames trapped air when pump V590 did not run during the fill-and-bleed routine, and Audi's 2068363 series for the Q4 e-tron prescribes two bleed runs at a battery temperature of 3 to 26 °C, replacing V590 only if the code returns. Ford lists P0CFF with MIL for the 2020 Escape HEV (20-2221, stored in the BECM) and the Explorer/Aviator hybrids (20-2345) and fixes it with BECM software. Symptoms

  • Warning such as Electric drive fault or Electrical system not working correctly
  • Malfunction indicator lamp on (Ford)
  • Reduced charging speed, especially DC fast charging
  • Reduced drive power when the battery warms up

  • High Air trapped in the battery coolant loop, pump running dry and stalling (VW ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron)
  • Medium Battery control module software misjudging pump state (Ford 2020 hybrids)
  • Medium Seized or mechanically blocked battery coolant pump
  • Low Low coolant level in the battery loop
