P0CFE: Control Pilot Charging Switch A Stuck On

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Cxx — Hybrid and electric propulsion

Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.

What does P0CFE mean?

Stuck On describes a charging switch A that stays closed while the module wants it open, so the pilot keeps signalling a charge request. Mercedes-Benz documents P0CFE00 in the AC charger N83, whose fault text states that the charger’s internal charge-start switch does not open. A 2023 bulletin for models 206, 223 and 243 reports it after charging has finished or at the start of a timed-charging pause, only with pre-entry climate control active, together with a charging error message in the cluster; NHTSA's index lists the same bulletin for many Mercedes plug-in and electric models up to 2026. The cause there is software, cured by SCN coding, and the bulletin advises against replacing parts. Its counterpart is P0CFD, circuit faults are P0CF8 to P0CFB. Charging may not end properly or is aborted.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Charging error message in the instrument cluster after charging
  • Charging aborts at home socket, wallbox or public station
  • Fault appears mainly with pre-entry climate control active (Mercedes-Benz)

Common causes

  • High On-board charger software, cured by SCN coding (Mercedes-Benz N83)
  • Low Charging switch or relay contacts sticking closed
  • Low Control line fault holding the switch permanently on

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
