P092D: Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Control Circuit B High
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P09xx — Transmission
What does P092D mean?
The module sees a higher voltage on shift lock circuit B than the commanded state allows, such as a short to supply or, with a low-side driver, an open coil. No manufacturer documents this code publicly. The documented counterpart on circuit A is FCA P0931 in recall 16V-249, where a badly crimped BTSI solenoid terminal on 2016 Grand Cherokees set the high fault and kept the lever in Park. GHSP patents show that a shifter may carry a second lock solenoid, so circuit B can be a separate lock. CARB requires circuit fault checks on outputs, with an exemption path for safety-only systems. P092C is the low, P092A the open fault of circuit B; P0931 is the same fault on circuit A.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Lever will not release from its locked position
- Fault appears intermittently with vibration
- Warning message about the shifter or transmission
Common causes
- High Circuit B wire shorted to a supply voltage
- Medium Poor crimp or loose terminal at the second lock solenoid
- Medium Open coil in the second lock solenoid
