P092A: Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Control Circuit B/Open

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P09xx — Transmission

What does P092A mean?

Reports an open on control circuit B of the shift lock. No manufacturer documents this code publicly, and none says which lock is B. One possible use is a second lock actuator: GHSP patents describe shifters where a further solenoid holds the lever in Neutral below a set speed unless the brake is pressed, beside the usual Park lock. CARB requires output circuits to be checked for continuity but may exempt safety-only systems. The FCA recall on the BTSI solenoid shows how such a lock fails in practice. P0928 is the same open fault on circuit A, P092B the plausibility fault, P092C and P092D the low and high faults of circuit B. Expect a lever that is locked in a position or no longer locked.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Selector lever locked in one position although the brake is pressed
  • Lock no longer engages, lever moves freely without brake
  • Warning message about the shifter or transmission

Common causes

  • High Broken wire or loose terminal on circuit B at the shifter
  • Medium Open coil in the second lock solenoid
  • Low Shifter connector not fully seated after console work

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
