U0183: Lost Communication with Sunroof Control Module

What does U0183 mean?

The body controller has lost the sunroof / panorama roof module. The roof can no longer be operated electrically and pinch protection is unavailable.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

• Multiple warning lights may illuminate
• Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
• Specific functions inoperative depending on module
• Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

Common causes

• High Water ingress in sunroof module
• Medium LIN wire to sunroof damaged
• Low Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
