P2701: Transmission Friction Element B Apply Time Range/Performance
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P27xx — Transmission
What does P2701 mean?
The time required to apply friction element B (a clutch or band inside the automatic transmission) is outside the expected window. Either too long (worn clutch, low pressure) or too short (sticky valve, mis-calibration).
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
Common causes
- High Worn clutch friction plates
- Medium Pressure control solenoid drift
- Medium Internal hydraulic leak in apply circuit
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
