P2145: EGR Vent Control Circuit High
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P2145 mean?
P2145 is the high fault in the vent solenoid circuit of the EGR system: the control line shows supply voltage while the module tries to pull it to ground, or the driver detects overcurrent through a shorted coil. The output then cannot switch the solenoid on, so the vent stays in its rest state – depending on design the EGR valve either cannot be released quickly or cannot be held, and the module normally stops using EGR. Ford's 2014 spark-ignition code list names P2145 alongside P2144, both with the warning lamp and a continuous test; thresholds are not given and no further manufacturer document is public. For the vent concept itself see Ford's separate vent and control outputs and Kia's duty-mapped vent solenoid. Open circuit is P2143, low fault P2144.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on
- EGR inactive, sometimes pinging under load on petrol engines
- EGR readiness not completed
Common causes
- High Control wire shorted to battery voltage
- Medium Shorted vent solenoid coil drawing excess current
- Low Faulty output stage in the engine control module
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
