P2116: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor E Minimum Stop Performance
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P21xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls
What does P2116 mean?
The code covers the rest-position check of signal E. Ford, GM and Mitsubishi assign E to the second accelerator pedal sensor, which on many pedals runs at roughly half the voltage of sensor D (GM: APP 2 between 0.16 and 2.3 V). If the reading with the pedal released lies outside the learned or calibrated window, P2116 can be stored. No manufacturer documents this code publicly. Circuit faults of the same sensor are reported separately (P2125, P2127-P2129) and disagreement between D and E as P2138; P2115 and P2117 handle D and F. Typical effects are a warning lamp, an unsteady idle and limited throttle response.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Warning lamp on
- Unsteady or raised idle
- Limited throttle response
Common causes
- High Pedal held off its stop by floor mat or sticking pivot
- Medium Worn or contaminated sensor track E
- Low Moisture or corrosion at the pedal connector
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
