P2084: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P20xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls

What does P2084 mean?

The bank 1 sensor 2 EGT reading deviates from the expected ratio against the upstream EGT sensor or modeled exhaust temperature. Confuses DPF regeneration control and may force a forced regen.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Common causes

  • High Sensor aged or drifting
  • Medium DPF heavily loaded — non-physical temperature gradient
  • Low Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
