P0DF2: Generator Inverter Temperature Sensor C Circuit

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Dxx codes

What does P0DF2 mean?

P0DF2 covers an electrical fault on temperature sensor C of the generator inverter that the controller cannot assign to a more specific low, high or intermittent code. Which power switch carries sensor C is up to the manufacturer; in Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV the third high-side IGBT sensor sits on the W phase, and its faults are logged only as P0DF7 to P0DF9. No manufacturer documents P0DF2 itself. CARB demands circuit monitoring for inputs of inverter thermal management. As these thermistors are usually built into the IGBT module, a confirmed sensor fault often means replacing the inverter or the complete power unit, so the harness and connector deserve a careful check first. The general circuit code for sensor B is P0DF0.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or engine warning light on
  • Generator power reduced as a precaution
  • Higher engine use or weaker battery recharge

Common causes

  • Medium Thermistor inside the IGBT module defective
  • Medium Connector or signal line fault between module and controller
  • Low Faulty input stage in the generator control unit

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
