P0CFC: Control Pilot Charging Switch A Intermittent/Erratic
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Cxx — Hybrid and electric propulsion
Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.
What does P0CFC mean?
With P0CFC the module sees the circuit of charging switch A, which places the charge request on the pilot line, change state erratically: the signal toggles briefly or vanishes for moments, whereas lasting faults would set P0CF8, P0CFA or P0CFB. Likely triggers are a loose pin, corrosion in the charge inlet or module connector, or a chafed wire that loses contact only under vibration or temperature change. No manufacturer documents this code publicly; it follows the pattern of the pilot codes, and Ford's P0CF7 bulletins show how an insufficiently secured plug can produce such dropouts on the pilot itself. CARB requires plug-in vehicles to monitor the charging system. Because each lost charge request makes the station switch off, sessions are interrupted repeatedly and may restart on their own.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Charging interrupted repeatedly, sometimes restarting by itself
- Code returns after clearing
Common causes
- High Loose or spread terminal in the switch circuit connector
- Medium Corrosion or moisture in the charge inlet
- Low Chafed wire losing contact under vibration or temperature change
