P0CDD: Drive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit C High

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Cxx — Hybrid and electric propulsion

Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.

What does P0CDD mean?

P0CDD indicates that circuit C of the drive motor A position sensor reads above its limit, which in general points to an open winding, a disconnected plug or a short to a voltage source. Subaru uses the code in the drive motor control module of the 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid. Bulletin 07-82-14R explains that P0CDD together with P0A3F could be stored whenever the 12 V auxiliary battery sagged below specified limits; the module then requests the MIL via P0CA1 in the engine controller, and C1424 appears in the stability control unit. The remedy is reprogramming the module with revised logic, which production adopted in January 2014. On such cars check the 12 V battery and software first. Electric drive is usually limited while the fault is active. The low counterpart is P0CDC.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • MIL on (requested via P0CA1 on Subaru)
  • Hybrid system warning, electric assist missing

Common causes

  • High 12 V auxiliary battery voltage dips with outdated module logic (Subaru)
  • Medium Open winding, broken wire or disconnected resolver plug
  • Low Circuit C wire shorted to a voltage source

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
