P0CBB: Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor P Circuit Intermittent/Erratic
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Cxx — Hybrid and electric propulsion
Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.
What does P0CBB mean?
P0CBB is about short dropouts or spikes in the signal of sensor P that do not last long enough, or go far enough, to trip the low or high code. GM defines it in the HPC2 tables 16OBDG02 to 19OBDG02 and judges how restless the signal is: within each window of ten samples taken 100 ms apart the size of every change is added up, a total above 10 fails the window, and four bad windows in five produce the code, Type B, two trips. Enable conditions are more than 10.2 V and communication with the battery interface module. Neither the 2011/2012 Volt tables nor Mitsubishi know this fault type for sensor P. An intermittent contact often shows up only with vibration or temperature change, so the freeze frame and a road test with live data matter more than a static resistance check.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Intermittent warning that may clear by itself
- Erratic sensor P reading in live data
Common causes
- High Intermittent contact at the sensor P plug
- Medium Hairline crack in the sensing board near the sensor P input
- Low Unstable reference or ground of the monitoring unit
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
