P0ADE: Hybrid/EV Battery Negative Contactor Control Circuit Range/Performance

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P0Axx — Hybrid and electric propulsion

Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.

What does P0ADE mean?

P0ADE is set when the coil circuit of the negative main contactor works electrically but its values are implausible, such as coil current or hold voltage out of range or a slow response after the command. No manufacturer publicly documents this code; GM, whose tables cover the negative contactor driver codes P0ADD, P0ADF and P0AE0 in detail, does not use P0ADE. CARB 1968.2 requires rationality and functional checks on hybrid output components. The contact-side faults P0AA4 (stuck closed) and P0AA5 (stuck open) are separate diagnoses. Possible effects are an intermittent failure to reach ready mode or charge.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Vehicle will not enter ready mode or start
  • Hybrid or EV warning light and check engine light
  • Charging not possible

Common causes

  • High High resistance in coil wiring or connector
  • Medium Negative contactor coil degraded
  • Medium Weak 12 V battery during start-up
  • Low Battery controller fault or software

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
