P0910: Gate Select Actuator Circuit/Open
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P09xx — Transmission
What does P0910 mean?
Concerns the drive circuit of the gate select actuator, the motor or valve that moves the shift mechanism of an automated manual gearbox sideways from gate to gate. The code sets when the control module finds this output open or electrically faulty, for example when no current flows although the driver stage is switched on. No manufacturer documents this code publicly. Isuzu and Hyundai/Kia patents describe select and shift actuators as electric motors fed by the transmission controller; older and heavy-duty systems use hydraulic or pneumatic select cylinders with solenoid valves. CARB requires circuit checks on such outputs. P0911 to P0913 are the range, low and high variants, P0909 a select movement that misses its target. Without the select actuator the gearbox cannot change gates and stays in its current gear or neutral.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Gearbox cannot change between gates, only some gears available
- Vehicle may stay in neutral and not drive off
Common causes
- High Open winding or worn brushes in the select motor
- Medium Broken actuator wire or terminal pushed out of the connector
- Medium Corroded actuator connector near the gearbox
- Low Faulty actuator driver stage in the transmission control module
