P080A: Clutch Position Not Learned
Standardized SAE J2012 code · P08xx — Transmission
What does P080A mean?
The 'Clutch Position Sensor A' family (P0805 circuit to P0809, P080A not learned) means different parts by vehicle generation. GM used P0806–P080A until model year 2018 for the analog clutch pedal sensor of its manual cars, then the newer pedal sensor codes P08A8 ff; Saab's 2012 9-3 does the same. Ford's DPS6 dual clutch uses the family for the electric motor of clutch A. P080A means the learned clutch position is missing or implausible. On GM manual cars the factory learns the pedal position 'clutch fully pressed', and the engine module then tracks it as the clutch wears; a learned value outside 9.0–36.0 % of travel sets the code (250 ms, type A, one trip), a factory counter keeps the MIL off during assembly. Saab clears it by relearning with the scan tool. A relearn is needed after replacing the pedal sensor, master cylinder, clutch or engine module.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on
- Start-stop, cruise control or hill start assist disabled
- Engine may start only with the pedal at the stop
Common causes
- High Relearn not done after sensor, clutch or module replacement
- Medium Clutch badly worn or misadjusted
- Medium Pedal sensor misadjusted or wrongly fitted
- Medium Engine module reprogrammed or replaced
