P077E: Transmission Fluid Temperature Measurement System Multiple Sensor Correlation

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P07xx — Transmission

What does P077E mean?

P077E is a plausibility check between several fluid temperature readings – for example sensors A and B, sump and valve body, or the module's internal temperature. If they differ by more than allowed after a settling time, such as a long stop, the code sets, without being able to blame a single sensor. No manufacturer document available to us uses it: GM checks each sensor alone (P0711, with the module temperature on the 6T70), and Ford has no multi-sensor check. A substitute value then limits converter clutch and shift adaption.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning, possibly check engine light
  • Converter clutch applies late or not at all
  • Harsh cold shifts

Common causes

  • High One temperature sensor drifting (aged NTC)
  • Medium Contact resistance at a sensor connector or wire
  • Low Fluid level too low (sensor not wetted)
  • Low Module or software

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
