P0632: Odometer Not Programmed ECM/PCM

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P06xx — Computer and output circuits

What does P0632 mean?

Engine modules increasingly keep their own copy of the odometer reading or take it over from the instrument cluster or body module; for model years 2019–2021 onward CARB requires mileage in the module's operating data records and explicitly mentions the case 'odometer is lost'. P0632 means the engine module holds no valid odometer value. It typically appears after the engine module was replaced and the mileage was neither transferred with the tool nor taken over from the cluster. GM notes for the 2019–20 Cadillac CT6-V that mileage is stored redundantly in engine module, body module and cluster, and that programming several of them at once can corrupt it – program one after the other. No manufacturer table available to us names P0632 itself. Driving is normal; service and operating counters may be implausible.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light (depending on the maker)
  • Scan tool shows no or a different mileage in the engine module
  • Implausible service or oil change displays

Common causes

  • High Engine module replaced, mileage not transferred
  • Medium Several modules (engine, body, cluster) replaced or programmed at the same time
  • Low No communication to the cluster or body module during takeover
  • Low Internal memory fault (EEPROM/NVM)

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
