P0562: System Voltage Low

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P05xx — Vehicle speed, idle control and auxiliary inputs

What does P0562 mean?

The module measures its own supply voltage. CARB allows other monitors to be suspended below 11 V, and above a maker's threshold only if the voltage itself is diagnosed – that is what these codes record. GM's engine modules and Ford's PCM set them without warning lamp. P0562 means the voltage is below its threshold with the engine running, when the charging system should deliver: GM 9 V or less at 400 rpm or more in 400 of 500 samples (about 5 s), type C. Saab's 9-4X modules may switch off temporarily below about 9 V. Many other modules, such as GM's brake module, set P0562 themselves.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Battery or charge warning lamp
  • Starting problems, dim lights
  • Codes in several modules

Common causes

  • High Alternator or regulator delivering too little
  • High Battery faulty (shorted cell)
  • Medium Corroded terminals, ground straps or alternator cable
  • Low High quiescent current or many consumers at idle

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
