P006C: MAP - Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Correlation

Standardized SAE J2012 code · P00xx — Fuel & air metering and auxiliary emission controls

What does P006C mean?

On turbocharged or supercharged engines the control module compares manifold pressure with the pressure measured upstream of the throttle, for example at idle or with the throttle wide open, where the two must lie close together. P006C is set when the difference exceeds a threshold. Manufacturers interpret "inlet pressure" differently: some mean boost pressure upstream of the throttle, others the pressure at the compressor inlet. Typical causes are a leak in the charge-air path or a faulty pressure sensor. Each sensor can be electrically fine on its own; regulations require such plausibility checks for input sensors with a code of their own.

The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced power possible
  • Hissing from a charge-air leak

Common causes

  • High Leak or disconnected hose in the charge-air path
  • Medium Boost or inlet pressure sensor faulty
  • Medium Manifold pressure sensor faulty
  • Low Throttle body fault

Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
