C0064: Roll Rate Sensor
Standardized SAE J2012 code · C00xx codes
Safety-critical system. Faults in airbags, brakes, steering or high-voltage components can put people at risk. Follow the manufacturer's service information and safety procedures, or have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop.
What does C0064 mean?
C0064 concerns the sensor for rotation about the longitudinal axis, used for rollover mitigation. On current vehicles it is usually part of an inertial sensor cluster inside the airbag or ESC module (compare C0069 and C006A). Without a plausible value the stability control cannot judge the vehicle's motion and is switched off. The code is a general fault for this component; the module stores it when the signal or circuit fails a check that no more specific code covers.
The code tells you which monitor failed, not which part is broken. Test before replacing parts.
Symptoms
- ESC warning light on
- Stability and traction control disabled
Common causes
- High Sensor or sensor cluster failed
- Medium Sensor cluster loose or mounted at an angle
- Medium Wiring or connector fault
Likelihood is a general estimate across vehicles; your make and model may differ.
